How long is the drive from Anchorage to Valdez?
About six to six and a half hours covering roughly 300 miles — up the Glenn Highway to Glennallen, then south on the Richardson Highway over Thompson Pass and down through Keystone Canyon into Valdez. It is one of the most dramatic drives in Alaska, and far better from the back seat than behind the wheel.
What is there to see on the way?
Thompson Pass is one of the snowiest places in Alaska; Worthington Glacier sits right off the road; and Keystone Canyon frames Bridal Veil and Horsetail Falls just before town. We stop for photos at the pullouts so the drive is part of the trip, not just the transfer.
